How Does ClearCorrect® Work?

ClearCorrect® is an alternative to traditional braces that uses custom-made, removable aligners to straighten teeth. To begin treatment, your dentist or orthodontist takes impressions of your teeth and creates a 3D model.

ClearCorrect® creates a series of slightly different aligners to move your teeth into their desired positions gradually. You wear the aligners for at least 22 hours per day and switch to a new set every few weeks until treatment is complete, which usually takes 12–18 months. After treatment, you wear a retainer to maintain the results.

Indications for ClearCorrect®

ClearCorrect® is a treatment option that can help with various alignment issues. Here are some common problems that ClearCorrect® can correct:

  • Crowded Teeth: ClearCorrect® gently moves teeth to a better position, preventing dental problems such as cavities and gum disease that often occur with overcrowding.
  • Gap: Gaps between teeth increase the risk of oral health issues and tooth damage. ClearCorrect® can help move teeth to the ideal distance apart, making it easier to remove food and plaque.
  • Bite Alignment: A misaligned bite can cause TMD and teeth grinding. ClearCorrect® corrects overbites, underbites, and crossbites.

The Benefits of ClearCorrect®

If you are deemed a good candidate for the procedure, you can expect to experience several benefits, such as:

  • Discretion: Clear aligners are virtually invisible, making them unlikely to be noticed.
  • Comfort: You won't have to deal with brackets and wires, which means no irritation of the soft tissues in your mouth. Any discomfort you experience is usually short-lived and can be easily managed.
  • No Food Restrictions: You can eat almost anything you like as long as you take out your aligners before eating and remember to brush and floss before putting them back in.

ClearCorrect FAQs

Although we’ve covered everything from the process and the benefits to the factors that impact the cost of ClearCorrect on this page, you may have a few lingering questions on your mind. If that’s the case, then we encourage you to give us a call – we’re always here to help! Otherwise, you can read on since we’ve dedicated this next section to answering FAQs about ClearCorrect in Houston.

Does ClearCorrect Hurt?

Unfortunately, many patients are hesitant to start clear aligner treatment because they are worried it will hurt. While orthodontic treatment of any kind comes with some soreness as your teeth are being moved, ClearCorrect is significantly more comfortable than traditional orthodontics since they don’t have metal brackets or wires. Plus, the materials the trays are crafted from are smooth and custom-made to fit your mouth, so it’s very likely you’ll go through your entire treatment without experiencing any irritation to the soft tissue in your mouth.

What Happens After ClearCorrect?

At the end of your ClearCorrect treatment, your teeth will be perfectly aligned. To keep them in place, you need to wear a retainer. Fortunately, these orthodontic appliances are just as discreet and comfortable as your ClearCorrect trays. Perhaps even more important, they can prevent your teeth from drifting into their previous positions (a phenomenon known as orthodontic relapse). That’s why we encourage our patients to make wearing theirs a life-long best practice.

Can You Eat with ClearCorrect?

You can eat whatever you’d like with ClearCorrect since there aren’t any dietary restrictions! With that said, there are a few things you should keep in mind when it comes to your meals. First, do your best to keep added sugar to a minimum. If you develop a cavity, then your treatment will need to be put on hold temporarily so it can be fixed. Second, you need to wear your trays for 20-22 hours a day, so it’s important to be mindful of your mealtimes. Dedicating 30 minutes for breakfast, 30 minutes for lunch, and 30 minutes for dinner is a great place to start!

Can You Get ClearCorrect After Braces?

It’s possible! For some patients, their misalignment is severe enough that they need to start their orthodontic treatment with traditional braces. Fortunately, hybrid treatments are often possible in this case, which allows you to finish your teeth-straightening journey with clear aligners. Of course, the decision on what is best for your smile goals will ultimately be up to you and your dentist. So, don’t hesitate to ask if this is a possibility at your initial consultation!

Who is Not Eligible for ClearCorrect?

There are a few patients who are not eligible for ClearCorrect, which is one of the reasons the initial consultation is so important. For example, children under the age of 13 may not have all of their adult teeth yet, making them not a candidate. If there is an existing oral health concern, like a cavity or gum disease, then that will also need to be addressed before you start clear aligner treatment. Lastly, if your misalignment is too severe to be corrected with ClearCorrect, then we will recommend traditional braces instead (at least at the beginning of your treatment).
